Fiberglass Gargoyles

For years
my last resort has been
a dull Swiss Army knife—
the larger of the two blades.

Or sometimes
a monologue, desperate,
pathetic and aimed up to heaven
but most likely coming up short.

Refurbished cathedrals
Have fiberglass gargoyles.
“Toasted Oatmeal” was selected
from a paint swatch for the walls.

To quote Lincoln,
“History is mostly forgotten.
Our memories warp what is saved,”
or something like that.

Last night
I saw a crescent moon
like a shard of tapered glass
in Orion’s foot.
